Having come from a farming family, Jamie saves seeds from produce to plant in the garden; she has done this for more than 15 years. When Jamie and Bill came to the Smoky Mountains on their honeymoon, they bought several pumpkins and squash to bring home to cook. They saved the seeds from those pumpkins and are still planting them today on Lone Star North Farm almost ten years later. Not only do they share seeds, but people share seeds with them. A lady they met through social media sent them some Cades Cove beans, since Cades Cove is nearby.

“If I come across some fully mature seeds, I can’t stand to throw them away. I want to save them to share with people; it’s like throwing food away,” says Jamie.
“With each seed we share, a part of Lone Star North Farm goes with it,” says Farmer Bill.
“One pumpkin can feed a family many meals. One seed can grow multiple pumpkins. I see the value in that one seed,” says Jamie.
